He’s already been to Mumbai twice but for Chef Matt Preston, every visit is a pleasure. This legendary British-Australian food journalist and restaurant critic, better known as one of the judges of MasterChef Australia, is currently in India to promote Season 3 of the show on Star World. And he’s thrilled that Indian fans are getting to see the show so close to its international premier.
“Judging by the barrage of tweets I’ve been getting, Indian fans have been hungry for it to start! And that’s the best thing a cooking show could inspire - an appetite for more.” Commenting on the occasion Saurabh Yagnik, General Manager & Senior VP, English Channels, Star India Pvt. Ltd said, “We are the only country after Australia to launch the latest season. We have a host of activities planned that includes a live video chat with the 2,65,000 fans on the India Facebook page of the channel, as social media is the backbone of our viewer engagement strategy.”
Matt too, is super-excited about the new season. “It is still all about the food and the joy of cooking but Season 3 also has more offsite challenges that are bigger in scale from cooking for 450 miners at a huge open-cast gold mine in the depth of the Australian dessert, cooking lunch for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and an amazing challenge where we were the first TV show to be allowed to film in the General Assembly of the UN. The contestants get to cater a cocktail party for UN delegates,” he reveals.
This visit is also an opportunity for him to indulge his taste-buds! “I’ve always eaten very well at the cheapest to the smartest of places!” So what’s on his food agenda this time? “Milky chai and ginger biscuits at Yazdani Bakery,” he says. “I’ll also seek advice on who is making the best vada pav in the city these days - is it Panshikar’s, Krishna Vada Pav, the vada pav wallah at Kirti College, Prakash or is there a new vada pav guy in town! No trip to Mumbai is complete without one of them.”
Catch MasterChef Australia every Monday to Friday at 9 pm on Star World.
